Trolden Distillery – Craft, Flavour, and Soul
Trolden Distillery shares both its address and spirit with the renowned Trolden Brewery. Here, the same uncompromising approach to quality and taste that defines their unique craft beers is carried over into the production of single malt whisky. Since 2011, the distillery has refined the art of creating top-quality whisky – with a focus on craftsmanship, authenticity, and the finest raw ingredients.
The production is based on traditional methods and carefully selected ingredients. Using hand-beaten pot stills with a capacity of just 350 litres, around 700 litres of “wash” are distilled into approximately 60 litres of raw spirit at 63% alcohol. The small volume and slow distillation process contribute to the rich, rounded, and almost oily mouthfeel that characterises Trolden’s whisky.
After distillation, the spirit is matured for several years in oak casks, most often American oak from used first-fill bourbon barrels, but also ex-sherry casks from Spain play an important role in flavour development. The casks vary in size from 8 to 200 litres, and several have been specially rebuilt to Trolden’s specifications at the historic Speyside Cooperage in Scotland. Each size and type is carefully chosen to achieve the desired character in the final whisky.
In short, Trolden Distillery is a place where passion meets precision – and where every bottle tells a story of true craftsmanship and a love for flavour.
